Abenicio Rael is the Director for Latinx Student Services in the Center for Identity and Inclusion at the University of Colorado Denver. He has been a professional with the University of Colorado System for more than a decade. Abenicio has previous experience in leading programs that provide academic services, educational equity and planning, and college access to historically underserved populations. In 2012, Abenicio was awarded the Chancellor’s Diversity Award for his leadership and dedication to diversity. His expertise lies in strategic planning, academic program development, and fostering community relationships. Abenicio’s personal and professional passion lies in Diversity, Equity, and Community and serves as an advocate for communities of color. Abenicio is a Doctoral Student at CU Denver in the “Educational Leadership for Education Equity” track and focuses his research on Hispanic-Serving Institutions. As a Chicano born and raised in Denver, Abenicio was a non-traditional student and the first person in his family to graduate from college. He has presented at several national conferences and has held positions with organizations that promote educational access and equity.
